Steven Caulker Flop of the Match

Did not look entirely convincing alongside Dawson throughout and was badly at fault for Norway's second goal but did prove a calm influence when in possession.

    Craig Dawson

Tidy when on the ball but was caught out on a numerous occasions when he nipped in to win the ball first ahead of Norway's talented attackers. Kept a cool head to get his side back in it from the penalty spot.

    Danny Rose

Was amongst the goalscoring chances from an early stage and was unfortunate not to put his side ahead on more than one occasion. Showed promise going forward but was often caught napping defensively as Norway exploited England's failings fully.

  • Nathaniel Chalobah

    Nathaniel Chalobah

Confident in possession but was sometimes guilty of over-playing when a simple pass would have sufficed. Was not always in the right position to help his defenders out with the plethora of bodies Norway launched forward on the counter.

  • Jordan Henderson

Tidy on the ball and covered a lot of ground in midfield as he sought to lift his side and get them going on the front foot. Nearly grabbed a goal to get his side back in the contest early on in the second period.

    Thomas Ince

Committed defenders from the outset and showed the sort of trickery that has led to him becoming a target for various Premier League clubs. Sometimes tried to do too much, however.

  • Nathan Redmond

    Nathan Redmond

Showed neat link-up play with fellow forwards Zaha and Ince and always provided an option in the wide positions for his midfielders but was ineffective with his final delivery.

    Connor Wickham

Was introduced at the break to give England a focal point to their attack but did not have the desired effect. Worked tirelessly and won a number of flick-ons but was often wasteful in the final third.

    Ø. Nyland

Was largely untroubled in the opening period and could do nothing to keep out Dawson's penalty after the interval. Made a super stop from Henderson.

    Thomas Rogne

A dominant presence at the heart of the Norwegian defence as he comfortably dealt with the pace and tricky play of England's front three.

    Fredrik Semb Berge

Stunned England with a well-taken opener and was a constant threat from set pieces. Was equally as effective from a defensive perspective too, with a number of brilliant challenges. Ruined his good work by conceding a penalty.

Always willing to get at the full-back with a series of marauding runs and went close early on following a defensive error. Tidy and effective on the ball.
