Siphiwe Tshabalala, Willard Katsande & Kaizer Chiefs stars whose contracts expire in 2018

Chiefs have seven of their players' contracts coming to an end in June 2018. Komphela's contract is also expiring. Goal takes a look at these stars

  1. Siphiwe Tshabalala

Kaizer Chiefs triggered the one-year option they had on Shabba's contract in February this year, and while both parties haven't started negotiating a possible new deal, indications are that the veteran winger will eventually sign on the dotted line.
  2. Tsepo Masilela

The former Getafe full-back has been with Amakhosi for five years now, but he has failed to agree terms on a new deal since the beginning of the year. He's now in the final months of his current contract, and his agent Mike Makaab is expecting to resume talks with the Soweto giants in the near future.
  3. Willard Katsande

The Zimbabwean midfielder has been in and out of the boardroom with the Chiefs hierarchy over the past few months, and he's yet to commit his future to the club. Given Katsande's immense contribution in the last six years, the Glamour Boys will hope to tie him down before it's too late.
  4. Brilliant Khuzwayo

Having played second fiddle to Itumeleng Khune since his arrival at the club, Khuzwayo has dropped several hints that he could look to further his career elsewhere given his lack of game time. However, Chiefs are hoping to engage the goalkeeper and offer him a contract extension. Cape Town City are reportedly monitoring Khuzwayo's situation at Naturena.
  5. Daniel Cardoso

The utility player struggled with injuries upon his arrival in 2015, but he appears to have done enough to cement his place in Steve Komphela's starting line-up in recent weeks. The big question though is whether or not he still has a future at the club given his handful of appearances during his two-and-a-half year stay so far.
  6. Hendrick Ekstein

The speedy winger was told to focus on game after demanding a salary increase last year, but having done so well to win the hearts of millions of Amakhosi fans with his scintillating displays this season, chances are that he will stay beyond June 2018. Both parties are set to resume talks before the end of the year.
  7. William Twala

The winger has struggled for consistency despite a bright start to his career at Amakhosi. The arrival of Joseph Molangoane saw him fall down the pecking order. Komphela signed Bhongolethu Jayiya at the beginning of the season, and therefore Twala was reduced into a benchwarmer than a regular. Chiefs are looking to use him as a makeweight to lure Sinethemba Jantjie of Free State Stars to Naturena when the January transfer window opens.
  8. Steve Komphela

The Amakhosi coach is also nearing the final six months of his contract with Chiefs, and the past two years have been nothing but tough for him. He's yet to deliver a major piece of silverware. Komphela still has the Nedbank Cup and the PSL title to fight for. His future at the club surely depends on the team's chances in the remaining two trophies on offer.
  9. Kaizer Motaung

Now, it's time for chairman Kaizer Motaung to make a decision on the futures of the abovementioned players, including their coach in the next few weeks as he wouldn't want to lose the majority of these players for free come June 2018.
