Club History
Since day one, this has been Preki's team. Always will be. The ageless, left-footed midfield magician led the side to its greatest triumph, the 2000 MLS Cup, and remains its all-time leading scorer with 69 goals, through 2004. Over the years, the team has seen a good deal of success, mainly due to longtime coach Bob Gansler's defend-and-counterattack philosophy. Today, staunch defenders like Nick Garcia and Kerry Zavagnin and potent attackers like Josh Wolff and Chris Klein make KC one of the most consistently tough teams to beat. But the club has never attracted Kansas Citizens' fancy and they have languished before minuscule crowds in the cavernous. In 2010, the team rebranded for a second time, taking the moniker Sporting Kansas City.
