History: One of MLS's first two expansion teams (along with the now-defunct Miami Fusion), the Chicago Fire have been one of its most successful. In the club's inaugural season, then-coach Bob Bradley guided the team to the double, winning the MLS Cup and the US Open Cup. The Fire's early success was due in great part to Polish international midfielder Peter Nowak, largely considered MLS's best player ever, Czech international defender Lubos Kubik, and American striker Ante Razov, who departed in 2004 as the Fire's all-time leading scorer with 76 goals.

All-time record (thru 2004): W 100, L 68, D 43

Former players of note: Peter Nowak, Lubos Kubik, Jorge Campos, Ante Razov, DaMarcus Beasley, Carlos Bocanegra, Hristo Stoichkov
