The best of the USA-Mexico rivalry
1. 2002 World Cup Round of 16 (USA 2, Mexico 0)
The only meeting between the CONCACAF rivals at a World Cup took place in 2002, and the Americans took it to 'El Tri' from the start. Powered by Claudio Reyna's outstanding form in midfield, and the surging runs of 20-year-old Landon Donovan and Tony Sanneh, the Americans overwhelmed the Mexicans early before fending off a second-half charge. Goals from Brian McBride and Donovan made the difference as the USA advanced to the quarterfinals.
