1. Rough start
The U.S. national team got off to a rough start in the hexagonal stage of World Cup qualifying when it wilted in the San Pedro Sula heat, dropping a 2-1 result to Honduras on Feb. 6. Coach Jurgen Klinsmann's experimental lineup — with three defensive midfielders and defenders Omar Gonzalez and Timothy Chandler both making their qualifying debuts — would be the subject of much derision.
