Oscar Cardozo - Paraguay
Top scorer in Portuguese football this season, Oscar Cardozo has been the focal point of Jorge Jesus’ Benfica revolution. Forming a deadly partnership with Argentine Javier Saviola, he struck 25 goals in 28 league games to help the Eagles to their first league title in five years.

Standing over 1.94m, Cardozo has a blistering left foot and is a constant danger in the air. Deadly from the penalty spot, he has been sniffing out goals all season in Lisbon but has never been able to reproduce that form at international football. A return of just four goals in 29 matches for his country has seen him fall victim to the Paraguayan boo boys. He may not create chances for himself but his recent form in a Benfica shirt suggests he is more than capable of firing the bullets that those behind him can load.

Cardozo started his career with 3 de Febrero and was prolific in helping the club to promotion from the Paraguayan second division before moving on to Club Nacional. Averaging almost a goal every other game for his new club it wasn’t long before he joined Newell's Old Boys in Argentina where the goals continued to flow as he became Paraguayan Footballer of the Year before joining Benfica in 2007.

Did You Know?

Cardozo became the second most expensive signing in Benfica’s history when he joined from Newell’s in 2007 for €11 million.
