VIDEO: The evolution of penalty taking with Mario Gotze

Football has evolved.

And so too, of course, has the kit.

Bu what if it hadn’t? What if there was no Climachill technology, heat-transfer crests, moisture-wicking features and slim, comfortable fits?

Could the players of today take penalties to the same standard?

Germany international and World Cup-winner Mario Gotze put the theory to the test when he was handed a 100% polyester, standard-fit Germany shirt from the 1994 World Cup.

After cranking up the heat and putting the Dortmund star through a few warm-ups, Gotze had less luck from the spot than he did with the retro plastic bags of water before hydrating.
