Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has hit out at the transfer policy of Champions League opponents Paris Saint-Germain.
The Scottish champions were placed in Group B alongside the Ligue 1 runners-up as well as Bayern Munich and Anderlecht.
All eyes, though, will be on the Parc des Princes side after their world-record capture of Neymar for €222 million from Barcelona. They are also seeking to sign Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe for around €150m – figures the Northern Irishman finds hard to stomach.
Launching an attack on Financial Fair Play. “If they sign Mbappe, you can rip it up. Since it was brought in you could argue it’s gone the other way. It’s obscene now.
“It is frightening when you look at what you’d consider to be an average player at a valuation between £20-30m, but it works its way down. There are players in the English Championship going for £15-17m.”
Given the presence of such financial heavyweights, Rodgers’ ambitions for Celtic this season are comparatively modest.
“If we finish in third place in our Champions League group then it will still be significant progress. As I said before the draw was even made, for us to be in Europe would be fantastic for us.
“It’s a difficult ask but it’s something that will be brilliant for us in our game.”
