ISL 2017: Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown signs for Kerala Blasters

In what is a major coup, Kerala Blasters have announced the signing of former Manchester United defender Wes Brown for the upcoming season of the Indian Super League (ISL).

The defender has made a total of 362 appearances for Manchester United, winning five Premier League titles along with two Champions League winner's medals.

Brown played last season at Blackburn Rovers in the English Championship. His signing can be attributed to new head coach Rene Meulensteen, who has worked with the defender during his time with the Red Devils.

The Englishman was training with Macclesfield Town at the end of his contract with Blackburn before signing for the ISL side.

The 37-year-old was an instrumental part of Alex Ferguson's Champions League winning side of 2008 and even delivered the assist for Cristiano Ronaldo's goal against Chelsea in the final at Moscow.

The defender joined the Manchester United Academy at the age of 12 and went on to win the Jimmy Murphy Academy Player of the season twice in 1998 and 1999. He went on to spend nearly two decades at Old Trafford before signing for Sunderland in the summer of 2011. Brown spent five seasons at the Stadium of Light, making a total of 87 appearances for the side.

The widely decorated player has 23 caps for the England national team and can play in the heart of defence along with being an able right-back.

The latest foreign signing for the Blasters should prove to be a solid buy as their Dutch coach embarks on his first tryst with the ISL.
