Kerala Blasters' new custodian, American Paul Rachubka has featured for more than 15 clubs so far in his career. Twenty years after he started his youth career at Manchester United, the 36-year-old decided to embark on an adventure to the East, signing for the Kerala-based Indian Super League (ISL) side in the summer.
The goalkeeper is looking forward to his stint in India and the only thing concerning him at the moment is the weather.
"It's going to be a different type of football. The humidity is going to play a part. Playing high intensity for 90 minutes is not going to be possible, for the foreign players."
He started his career at Manchester United and knows Wes Brown from his time in Manchester. For Rachubka, playing with Brown again is like two childhood friends hanging out after they have grown up.
"It was fantastic. For me growing up, that was all I need. That was my education of football. From 10 years old till I was 21, that was my life. At the same time, United got bigger and bigger. Same for Wes [Brown], he is like an extended family. I hadn't seen Wes for a long time. But you just go straight back into the way it was. Once you've grown up together, it's a different experience that is hard to explain."
Despite things not working out for Rachubka in the Manchester United first team, he still considers those days as an important part of his life.
"Sir Alex was very straightforward with me like he was with every player. He was like, for you to play my first team, it's going to be very difficult. You need to go and get experience. I can't wait for you to make mistakes on my team. That's the best way of learning - go out and make mistakes as long as you don't keep making the mistakes and continue to improve. So I have played for a lot of teams but I have learned a lot from that."
Lastly, the former Blackpool custodian revealed why he chose India as his destination. He believes that Indian football is on the up and for him, the choice was a no-brainer.
"One of the thoughts about coming here and why a lot of the boys are here is because Indian football is on the up. It is getting bigger, it is developing on a global level. As a country and for football as a whole, it is a fantastic place to be at this moment."
After two decades, the Manchester United academy goalie will once again be in between the sticks with the support of a large crowd around him. The colour of the kit will now be yellow instead of red.
