Griezmann: Mbappe partnership will only get stronger for France

The pair might already have a world title between them, but there is more to come, according to the Atletico Madrid forward

Antoine Griezmann has sent out a warning to France’s rivals, stating that his on-field partnership with Kylian Mbappe will only become stronger.

Both were vital players as France won the World Cup in Russia during the summer, beating Croatia 4-2 in the final.

Griezmann was voted the third-strongest player at the event, while his colleague was anointed as the outstanding youngster, having become the first teenager to score in the final since Pele for Brazil in 1958.

And now the Atletico Madrid star has said that the pairing will only become better.

Asked prior to Sunday’s Nations League match with the Netherlands on Sunday, how they can improve as a duo, Griezmann said: “With more matches. We’ve played very little together. Then, it’s up to me to work on his patterns, on what he likes to do. We’ve not had time to work on that. I’ll watch his videos.”

Meanwhile, Griezmann spoke out on the prospect of winning the Ballon d’Or, having insisted previously that he deserves to finish in the top three of the voting.

“It’s not me who votes,” he said. “It’s up to me to continue playing like this for the four months that are to come and we’ll see what happens. For the moment, I’ll try to think of my club, even if it’s something that’s in the corner of my head.

“I must think of the team, which is the most important thing. Without thinking collectively, you can have nothing as an individual.”
