U.S. Soccer announced its 2018 National Soccer Hall of Fame class on Thursday, which includes Cindy Parlow Cone, Dr. Bob Contiguglia, Brad Friedel, Don Garber and Tiffeny Milbrett.
The five were selected from a list of 32 finalists on the Hall of Fame player ballots, nine finalists on the veteran ballots and seven finalists in the builder category.
Milbrett and Friedel were selected from the player ballots, while Garber and Contiguglia came from the builder ballot and Parlow Cone was chosen from the veteran ballot.
Parlow Cone and Milbrett both starred for the women's national team in the 1990s and 2000s, and were each a part of the sides that won the 1996 Olympic gold medal and the 1999 Women's World Cup.
Friedel is one of the finest goalkeepers the U.S. has ever produced, featuring for the national team between 1992 and 2005, while playing 17 seasons in the Premier League. He is currently the manager of the New England Revolution in MLS.
Garber, the current MLS commissioner, was elected to the Hall in 2016 but deferred enshrinement to 2018. He has been commissioner of the North American top flight since 1999. Under Garber's leadership, the league has expanded from 10 to 26 clubs and achieved long-term viability.
Contiguglia was U.S. Soccer president from 1998 to 2006, overseeing a period of success that included the 1999 Women's World Cup title.
The five new members of the Hall of Fame will be inducted during a ceremony in October at the brand-new National Soccer Hall of Fame, located at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
