Cedric Bakambu fire blanks as Beijing Guoan defeat Chongqing Lifan

Cedric Bakambu was not on the scorer’s sheet as Beijing Guoan defeated Chongqing Lifan 2-1 in a Chinese Super League encounter played on Thursday.

Goals from Jonathan Viera and Renato Augusto were all the Imperial guards needed to edge past the visitors who got their lone strike through Fernandinho.

Guoan took the lead through Viera in the 21st minute but the hosts levelled matters through Fernandinho in the 66th minute thanks to an assist from Seba.

With the game looking to be heading for a 1-1 draw, Fernandinho sealed the win 12 minutes from full time.

Congo’s Bakambu was replaced by Shihao Wei in the 90th minute. He has scored 13 goals in 16 appearances this term for Roger Schmidt’s men.

With this, Beijing Guoan maintain their lead in the Chinese elite division with 45 points from 21 games.
