Arsenal playmaker Ozil explains Wembley 'secret' ahead of FA Cup semi-final

Mesut Ozil is looking to extend his personal winning record at Wembley and edge Arsenal closer to much-needed silverware in the FA Cup.

The Germany international has graced the home of English football on four previous occasions and emerged victorious in each of those outings, while also providing two assists.

Those triumphs have landed him two winners’ medals, with the Gunners chasing down a third in this season’s competition.

Manchester City stand in their way and Ozil admits that Arsene Wenger’s side must overcome that hurdle to help salvage a season which is slipping away and leading to increased supporter unrest.

He told Arsenal Player on his Wembley record and hopes for the future:  “The secret is that we believe in ourselves.

“That we support each other on the pitch, that we’re mentally strong and focused to get the trophy.

“We’ve won it [the FA Cup] two times since I’ve been here. It’s my fourth year here and I’ve won it twice, and it would be nicer to have the trophy in my hands again.

“I think it would do a lot of good for the fans too, to see us winning trophies.”

With Arsenal having suffered another last-16 exit from the Champions League this season and slipped to sixth in the Premier League table, the FA Cup offers them a final opportunity to taste success.

“You’re always hungry for titles,” Ozil added.

“We’re out of the Champions League and it will be very hard to win the title. We can only really get this one trophy and we must give everything to do it.

“I hope we can take the next step against City and get into the final. It will be difficult because they want the same - they’re desperate to win the FA Cup, just as we are.”

Ozil has made 35 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions this season, netting 11 goals.
