Insiders at the Catalan club now believe a deal for the Sevilla star is imminent after a meeting about the transfer took place in Seville on Monday - which included the Catalan club's financial vice president Xavier Faus.
Dejan Rakitic, Ivan's brother and agent, has been a major force behind the move, pushing for it despite Sevilla president Pepe Castro's reluctance to sell the Croatia international.
Ivan Rakitic appeared to say goodbye to the Sevilla fans after its victory in the final of last season's Europa League, despite having verbally agreed to extend his contract with the club - a deal which will no longer happen.
The Andalusian side has not yet given up on getting more than 20m euro for the 26-year-old in the move, which could see Barcelona B midfielder Denis Suarez moving in the other direction on loan with an option to buy.
