Real Sociedad won’t listen to January offers for Vela

The Mexican striker is very much in the plans for Real Sociedad, according to the La Liga club's president.

Carlos Vela has been an integral part of a memorable year for La Liga outfit Real Sociedad and the club has no intention of letting him go in 2014, should an offer come in.

“Our intention is to not listen to offers, we don’t have the financial necessity to sell,” Real president Jokin Aperribay told reporters in San Sebastian last weekend. “But we’re not going to keep someone at the club that doesn’t want to grow with us, because it wouldn’t be good for the player or for Real.”

The Mexican, who hasn’t featured for the national team in World Cup qualifying, has been consistent in stating he is happy in La Liga.

After an unhappy spell at Arsenal in the Premier League, Vela has resurrected his career with the Basque team and has been one of a group of younger players at Real Sociedad to lift the team to the Champions League in 2013.

The club president hopes that the success will continue into 2014.

“2013 has been so good that I’m asking that we repeat it in the New Year,” Aperribay said. “That would be incredible.”
