The 26-year-old says his side prides itself on playing good football at every opportunity but admits is is important to have different tactical approaches at their disposal.
Barca has begun the campaign in imperious form, with Tuesday's 4-1 rout of Real Sociedad the team's sixth win in as many games in La Liga in 2013-14.
However, questions remain over the style of play - especially after Rayo Vallecano ended a run of 316 games in which Barcelona has had more possession than the opposition - and Pique acknowledges that the Blaugrana way of playing is just as important as the results which come with it.
"We are Barca, we know how things are. Just winning is not enough. We also have to play good football," Pique told Barca TV. "Barca is the only club that can win 4-0 and people just look at who had the most possession, but we were aware of that statistic.
"You saw the best of us today [Tuesday], but other days things don’t work out so well and we have to vary things. The more options we have, the better we’ll be. That’s something Tata [Martino] is trying to instill, and it’s very welcome. Six wins out of six shows we’re doing well. As long as we’re winning it can’t be bad. As long as we’re getting three points each game, we are able to talk."
Barca currently sits joint top of La Liga, with Atletico Madrid also having secured maximum points from its opening six games, and Pique believes Diego Simeone's side will be a genuine title threat come the end of the season.
"Atletico Madrid are also up with us and it’s going to be a very difficult and competitive competition," he added.
