The 26-year-old started his career with Deportivo La Coruna, before moving to English Premier League side Wigan Athletic in 2011.
Lopez, who goes by the name 'Piscu,' doesn’t have much in the way of first-team experience, having played just 26 league matches for Deportivo’s first team, and just 11 league matches for Wigan over his two-year spell in England. He also appeared in one of Wigan's FA Cup matches last season, en route to the club capturing the trophy.
This move comes just three days after the club signed Argentine Designated Player Hernan Bernardello.
“We are very excited to have acquired Adrian, who played in top leagues like England and Spain,” Impact sporting director Nick De Santis said in a club statement. “López is at a very good age and is very motivated to join the club. He will be an important part of our defensive line now, but also for the future.
“We have a good group so it was not an easy decision to add players, but the personalities of López and Bernardello give us that chance as they will both fit in well.”
