thumbnail Hello,

The left back had his tongue firmly in cheek when he criticized the value of victory this year and insisted that Barcelona remains the best club in the world.

Barcelona left back Jordi Alba has suggested that his side's imminent title win does not feel as valuable this season because of the point gap between the Blaugrana and Real Madrid.

The 24-year-old, speaking with his tongue firmly lodged in his cheek, bemoaned the lead that Barcelona has fashioned in La Liga but said that - Champions League semifinal against Bayern Munich aside - the Catalunya club's season has been great.

"I'd give [this campaign] a very good mark," Alba told reporters on Friday. "In the [Champions League] semifinal games maybe we weren't quite good enough, the 4-0 was painful.

"Bayern were very good, at the top of their game, and we weren't good enough. The league appears not to be worth anything because we are so far ahead of Madrid..."

Jose Mourinho's compliments towards Barca have not gone down very well this week with Madrid fans, but Alba believes that Tito Vilanova's side can still lay claim to being the greatest side on the planet.

"The facts are there. In the last few years Barcelona have been the best in the world, and in my opinion we still are," the Spain international continued. "I respect the opinion of every team. Barcelona in the last 10 years have won a lot of trophies."

The fullback also revealed his excitement at the prospect of his first league winners' medal and insisted that the game against Atletico Madrid - in which a win will guarantee the Primera Division title - on Sunday is the center of the Barca squad's attention.

"If we beat Atletico, we'll be champions, and it doesn't matter what Real Madrid do. We are focusing on ourselves," Alba said. "This will be my first title and I'm very keen to be league champion."

If Real Madrid fails to beat Espanyol on Saturday, then Barca will already be the new Spanish champion before the visit to Estadio Vicente Calderon.
