Vilanova unsure of Abidal and Valdes futures

The Barcelona boss says a decision has yet to be taken over a new deal for the Frenchman and says he would have no objections to the goalkeeper staying another year
Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova has admitted that he is unsure over the futures of Eric Abidal and Victor Valdes.

The Frenchman returned to the first team recently after missing more than a year thanks to a liver transplant, while the goalkeeper made his intention to leave Camp Nou clear back in January.

"Abidal's renewal is a very special situation. We do not know yet how he will recover if there are games every three days," Vilanova said at a press conference. "For me, it wouldn't be a problem if Victor wants to continue another season. I didn't talk to him, but his decision was clear."

Vilanova has had his own battles with cancer and admitted that his relapse was a testing tame for Barca.

"It wasn't an easy situation for the club when I had my relapse. I would have accepted any decision they'd have made," he continued.

"I feel very good after the treatment. I didn't give a press conference earlier because there were still some side effects, particularly with my voice.

"I feel better every day. I feel strong enough and I'm very motivated to continue next season, if my health allows it."

Barca take on Athletic Bilbao at San Mames on Saturday.
