Following the 5-0 demolition of Granada, the Atletico coach is full of optimism that his side can finish second in La Liga ahead of Real Madrid.
Los Rojiblancos are three points off their city rivals and the Argentine believes the result against the Andalusian minnows can be the catalyst for a late charge to finish as runners-up.
"We want second place," the 42-year-old coach told reporters. "The team did a great job and now we have 65 points. We were able to take our chances and this made the team to play a more intense game. I am very satisfied with our work."
He added, "We need to win matches and make sure that they do not change in the last few minutes. Today was important and showed a late fight for the highest-possible finish. Although, it is still impossible to say that we have secured Champions League qualification."
