The Argentine superstar hailed the Blaugrana's victory over Benfica on Tuesday night, and lamented the injury suffered by captain Carles Puyol during the game.
Strikes in either half from Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas set up by Messi proved to be enough to earn the Spanish front-runners victory at the Estadio da Luz, Barcelona's second win in Group G. For Messi, it marked the third straight match in which he did not tally a goal himself, although he played a role in helping Barcelona winning each game.
"Not scoring? I'm not worried about scoring, that's not the goal of a game," Messi said after the match. "The goal is to win the game.
"Now we'll start to prepare for the Clasico tomorrow. There will be no revenge [for the Spanish Super Cup], we are just motivated to continue winning in the Liga.
Meanwhile, the club has confirmed that veteran center back Carles Puyol dislocated his left elbow after landing awkwardly in the second half, effectively ruling the 34-year-old out of his side's crunch encounter against Real Madrid this weekend.
"Puyol's injury is a real shame, he was just coming back from one. I don't yet know how long he will be out for though."
Despite Puyol's enforced absence, Vilanova will be crossing his fingers defensive partner Gerard Pique is passed fit for Sunday's match at Camp Nou.
