Sevilla has confirmed the appointment of Michel as the club's new coach until the end of the season.
The ex-Real Madrid midfielder has also been promised a long-term contract if he is able to secure Champions League football for the Andalusian outfit, which has chosen to act quickly after sacking Marcelino on Monday.
Mallorca boss Joaquin Caparros had been the favorite to land the job, in what would have been his second spell at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, but it is now believed that Getafe may go back for him in the summer if it does not retain the services of Michel.
The 48-year-old coached Getafe from 2009-11 but left last summer after the club did not offer him a new deal.
Michel will preside over his first match on Feb. 13 against Real Sociedad, as 11th-placed Sevilla aims to climb up the Primera Division standings.
