Real Sociedad |
![]() Following a goalless first half, Betis took the lead through Imanol Agirretxe after 55 minutes, when the forward beat Casto Espinosa with a fine header from a corner. Carlos Vela then made it two 20 minutes later as he pounced on a loose ball to fire home, but Jonathan Pereira gave Betis hope with 10 minutes left and scored another from close range to complete the comeback with five remaining. However, with time ticking away Martinez struck a wonderful left-footed effort from the halfway line to lob Casto, give Real Sociedad a dramatic late win and compound the misery for the Andalusians. The Basques now have 12 points and lie in 16th, two places below Betis, which is one point better off. |

Sporting Gijon |
![]() Prior to Sunday's 4-0 thrashing of Sporting Gijon, Juan Ignacio Martinez's side had suffered defeats at the hands of Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Osasuna, slipping to fourth in the table. But the threat of a fourth consecutive defeat was removed when Jose Barkero provided the finish to a slick counterattack to set the home side on its way to a comprehensive victory. It took the Valencia-based outfit two minutes to double its lead after the break, when Valdo touched home from close range, and the game was put out of Sporting's sight minutes later. Arouna Kone added the third in the 52nd minute with a sharp finish from the six-yard box and the Ivorian scored his second in similar fashion just after the hour mark. The home side was able to play out the remainder of the match in first gear, with the win taking it to within two points of second-placed Barcelona. |
| Mallorca |
2-1 |
Racing |
![]() The home side brought to an end its six-match winless streak to help lift it out of the drop zone while Hector Cuper's side remains firmly rooted to the bottom of the table. Neither side dominated the opening half, with both spurning half-chances to take the lead and lacking the luck needed to go ahead. Indeed, it was Mallorca which was shown that good fortune when Marc Torrejon inadvertently put the ball past his own goalkeeper to gift the home side the lead on the stroke of halftime. Racing fell further behind midway through the second half when Victor supplied the finish after Michael Pereira's perfectly placed cross found the Spaniard 10 meters out. Ariel Nahuelpan dragged Racing back into the match with a superb header following Pape Diop's dangerous free-kick with 15 minutes left. The Cantabrians tried to find the equalizer in the closing stages of the match but Mallorca held on to secure all three points. |
| Espanyol |
1-2 |
Osasuna |
![]() Roland Lamah and Javed Nekounam scored either side of the break to put Jose Mendilibar's side two up, before Alvaro Vazquez netted for the home side. Espanyol, which has now failed to win in its last four matches, searched for an equalizer but Osasuna's defence remained strong as it secured all three points. In an even opening to the match the two teams continued to cancel one another out until Lamah struck a minute before the break, The Belgian striker latched onto Raul Garcia's through ball before cooly finishing past Cristian Alvarez. Lamah then turned provider in the 50th minute when he touched the ball to Nekounam, who rifled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the area. Five minutes later, however, Espanyol found itself back in the match when Alvaro converted Joan Verdu's cross as the Catalans began to heap the pressure on Osasuna. Mendilibar's side was forced to play the closing stages with 10 men following Eneko Satrustegui's second yellow card but they held on admirably to seal all three points. |
| Athletic Bilbao |
0-1 |
Granada |
![]() In a game of few opportunities, Inigo Lopez headed home from a corner to give Granada the lead after 31 minutes and the Andalusians kept out the home side with an impressive defensive performance after that. Marcelo Bielsa's side had its chances, though, as Fernando Llorente came close, David Lopez hit the post late on and Markel Susaeta shot straight at Roberto in the last minute. Athletic, with 18 points, drops to eighth in the table, while Granada is now in 16th, level on points with 18th-placed Sporting Gijon, but having played one game less after its match at home to Mallorca - which it was winning 2-1 at the time - was suspended after 63 minutes last weekend and will now be resumed in December. |
| Zaragoza |
0-1 |
Sevilla |
![]() Sevilla started the season well, but had picked up just one point from the last three matches and has been struggling for goals lately as well. Luckily for the club, though, it only needed one to clinch the points in this fixture, with Negredo firing home from the spot after he himself had been fouled by Mateos. The Spain striker almost saw his effort saved by Roberto and missed a great chance moments later, but he then also came close to scoring at the other end before the break as he deflected a free kick in the area. Zaragoza's best chance came towards the end of the match, when Juan Carlos saw his fierce effort saved by Javi Varas. The winger was then harshly sent off in the final minute for holding back Coke, an action which probably did not even deserve a yellow, but it summed up another miserable night for the Aragonese outfit, now second to bottom with just 10 points. Sevilla, meanwhile, is back up to fifth. |
