Roberto Martinez compares Manchester City to Barcelona after Wigan defeat

The coach was full of praise for Roberto Mancini's men, in particular Sergio Aguero and David Silva, who he believes have struck up a special partnership already.

MANCHESTER, England -- Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has likened Manchester City to European champion Barcelona after his side was beaten 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

A Sergio Aguero hat-trick handed the Blues all three points and ensured they made it four wins in four Premier League games this season. David Silva was also in fantastic form for the hosts as Wigan came up against a near unstoppable force in the Citizens.

"The understanding between David Silva and Sergio Aguero was something special. Their football is so creative and unpredictable that you have to be perfect when you play against them," Martinez said after the clash."

Martinez added that Manchester City has shown flashes of Barcelona three years ago when the club began its current run under former manager Frank Riijkard. The Catalan club has won the Champions League title twice in three seasons since.

But Manchester City still has a lot to prove.

"To be compared to Barcelona, you have to win the title but they [Manchester City] have the ability to achieve anything in world football," Martinez said.
