Mallorca Appeal UEFA Europa League Expulsion
Mallorca will fight loopholes in their expulsion from Europe.
By Andrew McLean
Mallorca will appeal their Europa League expulsion case this morning in Nyon, believing that they have found valid grounds for their re-instatement in the competition.
Currently Villarreal have taken their place in the Europa League but the counsel representing Mallorca understand that UEFA loses its power to revoke European license in the case of a club bankruptcy, and it is solely the judge who has jurisdiction to do so.
Therefore Mallorca will put forward their grounds that UEFA are incorrect to expel them in this case and they were wrong to dismiss their appeal.
UEFA declared the main point of the licence being revoked was the debt run up by the club of some €30 million, which in the documentation is before 2010 and thus not compliant as the funding of these debts met with the deadlines required.
If this appeal is not successful Mallorca will turn to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which would then be dependant on FIFA rather than UEFA.
