Atletico Madrid progressed to the final of the Europa League on the away goals rule despite going down 2-1 to Liverpool at Anfield in the second leg of their semi-final tie on Thursday night.
It finished 1-0 to Liverpool at the end of the 90 minutes and although the hosts went 2-0 up in extra-time, a Diego Forlan strike in the 102nd minute took the Mattress-Makers through to the final as Atleti had won the first leg 1-0 at the Vicente Calderon in Madrid last week.
Speaking after the match, Forlan, who scored against Liverpool in the first leg too, played down his contribution to his team's progress to the final and admitted that Rafael Benitez's side made it hard for them.
Forlan told Five, ''We needed to score - it doesn't matter who is going to score. It was a really difficult game. We knew they would come after us. They played really well in the first half and they deserved that goal. They got the second goal. We knew we needed to score one goal. And that was it.''
Looking ahead to the final against Premier League side Fulham, Forlan remarked, ''Every team is a difficult. We didn't think about any team [beforehand]. We just wanted to qualify.''
