Sevilla's Rodriguez Plays Down Real Madrid Interest In Navas
He says Madrid are always linked with in-form players.
By Paul Madden
Sevilla sporting director Ramon 'Monchi' Rodriguez has played down the significance of Real Madrid's apparent interest in winger Jesus Navas.
Navas has been in fine form for los Nervionenses, earning himself a place in the Spain squad and reportedly attracting the attention of Real officials but Monchi says that interest is nothing new. He also suggested that the talk of an approach from Real Madrid was an attempt to disrupt the Andalusian sides preparations for Saturday's game at the Bernabeu.
"This story has a birth, a development and a later stage. Let's see how it goes after Saturday's game. If it continues, we will give it more substance but interest in the player comes, ironically, as he faces Madrid soon," Monchi told AS.
"You have to see if this story runs, because in the first half of the season Madrid wanted [Diego] Perotti, with Athletic [Bilbao] it's Javi Martinez, with Racing [Santander] it's [Sergio] Canales, with Barcelona, the clauses of [Lionel] Messi and [Andres] Iniesta are not affordable.
"We will not discover anything new, this has always happened because the machinery that runs Madrid is very big and can do this."
