Father: Racing Santander's Sergio Canales' Future Yet To Be Decided
Regular football a priority at this stage of the youngster's career.
Angel Canales, father and representative of Racing Santander starlet Sergio Canales, has declared that his son's future is yet to be decided but added that it is vital to keep his feet on the ground at this important stage of his career.
He also revealed that they rejected approaches from Barcelona and Real Madrid in the past and prioritized regular football over financial reward as key to the decision on where his future lies.
Angel Canales' words suggest that the 18-year-old is not quite ready for a move to a top club, despite reported interest from Real Madrid and Chelsea.
"Various clubs have been in contact but we must take things step by step," he is quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.
"It's an important moment for Sergio. It is complicated, not only for economic matters. We have not yet decided anything. It is clear that Sergio must continue to play and at a big team that can be difficult. we must keep our feet on the ground.
"When he was 12 years old Barcelona and Real Madrid called but the time wasn't right. Barcelona called again two years later. Then when he was 16 more teams called but we were clear he should continue at Racing."
