Simao Confident Of Atletico Madrid Revival
Things can only get better for Los Colchoneros.
Atletico Madrid have suffered a horrific start to the season, but Simao is confident that Los Colchoneros will turn things around in the new year.
Atleti currently sit in 15th place, but Simao believes that their fortunes are set for a boost. Speaking to Europa Press, he said, "I don't believe that we have to find a scapegoat."
"We know where the problems are, and we are on the way to solving them. We are on the right track.
"We are more united on the pitch. We need to have more confidence in ourselves.
"I expect that we will improve in the new year."
Simao then emphasized the positive atmosphere within the squad, continuing, "All the players and technical staff have a good relationship."
"We are all professionals. It is essential that we help each other on the pitch.
"We have to fight to enter the European places.
"The main thing is to add points, and climb the table each week."
The Portuguese winger then looked forward to a positive year, stating, "Our priority is to improve a lot in the new year."
"I am sure that 2010 will be better for us. I ask the fans to continue trusting in us.
"I assure them that we will give them joy in 2010."
Simao then reflected on his time at the club, saying, "I reached my best form in the second season."
"We qualified for the Champions League, which was the main objective in both seasons. We began well, because we eliminated Panathinaikos and qualified for the group stages.
"Then we had a large fall. We began very badly in the league.
"Since then, we have had three months of ups and downs."
Finally, Simao paid tribute to Quique Sanchez Flores' work, stating, "He speaks to us a lot."
"He explains things until he is convinced we have understood his tactics.
"He has taught us that communication is essential, and we should help each other out on the pitch."
