Madrid Boss Pellegrini Pleased With Zaragoza Mauling
Los Merengues were almost perfect on Saturday night.
Real Madrid thrashed Zaragoza at the Bernabeu, but Manuel Pellegrini believes there is still improvement in his side.
Speaking to Marca after the match, Pellegrini said, "We need to do this consistently."
"We played ninety solid minutes, with intensity. We maintained our defensive security, and tried to score as many goals as possible.
"Now we have to maintain this for the rest of the league."
Pellegrini made sure not to get too carried away, continuing, "It is difficult to jump to conclusions in football."
"The team has confirmed its good form. I am happy because they played well and scored good goals.
"The scoreboard suggests a perfect match. We have tried different formations, and rotations.
"The points and performance indicate that we are succeeding. The players have understood the message.
"I do not know if it is perfect, but we are on the right track."
Pellegrini then discussed the possiblity of a defensive replacement being bought for Pepe, stating, "We will discuss the possibility calmly."
"Garay and Metzelder are confident enough to cover for Pepe, who is irreplaceable.
"It is not urgent."
Finally, Pellegrini played down comparisons to Barcelona, who created history by winning the World Club Cup, saying, "It is difficult to do what they did."
"We are within two points of them, having been to the five toughest grounds. I believe they have more difficult trips to come.
"Their great performance lends even more merit to ours, because we are keeping up with them."
