Real Madrid Star Guti Can't Explain Alcorcon Thumping
Madrid reeling after 4-0 reversal.
Real Madrid midfielder Guti had no explanation for his sides humiliating defeat to Segunda Division B side Alcorcon in the Copa del Rey but offered the fine performance of the home team's goalkeeper Juanma as a reason for their failure to get on the score sheet.
Guti was replaced at the interval as the team from Spanish football's third tier gave Los Blancos a lesson in every area of the field in the first half, leading 3-0 at the break before adding a fourth shortly after the restart.
"It was a difficult game. Now we have to face the return leg and wear the shirt proudly and we know what we have to do. There is no explanation and the only thing we can do is try to improve things," Guti told AS afterwards.
"We're so hurt as a team because our image has been damaged. Now we have to do our talking on the field. What has happened cannot be explained. We have come far, but their goalie was very good and we have not scored."
All eyes will now focus on the return leg at the Bernabeu on November 10.
