Valdano Apologises For Real Madrid Humiliation In Copa del Rey
The Argentinian insists Madrid can turn things around.
Real Madrid director general Jorge Valdano has apologized to Madrid fans for Los Blancos shocking 4-0 defeat to Alcorcon in the first leg of their fourth round Copa del Rey tie.
Madrid were shambolic at best as the Segunda B side scored three first half goals before adding another shortly after the interval to condemn Los Merengues to one of the most embarrassing defeats in their history.
"I know what it feels like for Real Madrid and I ask forgiveness. From these blows we must learn lessons of humility and come through strengthened," he said, according to Marca.
"I am convinced that this group of very good professionals know how to reverse the situation. They are proud players and today we have had a really bad night."
Valdano, according to Marca, is understood to have entered the dressing room at half-time when at 3-0 down, Guti was replaced by Fernando Gago, sparking speculation about the future role of coach Manuel Pellegrini but Valdano said afterwards that Pellegrini's job is safe.
"We must be united and that includes the coach." he said.
