After receiving much criticism for his displays with Argentina, Messi was criticized for his quiet performances in the 0-0 draw with Valencia last weekend and the UEFA Champions League defeat to Rubin Kazan midweek.
"He [Messi] is in very good spirits. I have never seen a boy of 22 years with so much responsibility. He is very strong, and if one day he plays poorly, it is normal. He cannot win a game on his own; he needs the team, as we need him," Keita remarked at a press conference.
Referring to the defeat to the Russian champions, the Mali international also suggested that when teams play against Barcelona, they treat it as if it is the most important game of their careers.
"When they play against us, it's like they're playing for a World Cup," he added.
Next up for the treble champions is the visit of Real Zaragoza to Camp Nou, as they look to secure their first win in three games.
