Atletico Madrid's squad were delighted with their win over Liverpool, as they look ahead to the Champions League qualifying play-off against Panathinaikos.

Los Rojiblancos won 2-1 at Anfield, ten days out from the first leg in Greece. Speaking to Marca, Juanito expressed his delight, saying, "Liverpool is one of the best teams in Europe, with great forwards, but we were able to counter them.

"It is not easy to win here, and we improved on our past mistakes. It was an important victory.

"We won against a great team. We were more compact, and kept the ball well.

"It was a complete performance."

Meanwhile, Antonio Lopez echoed similar sentiments, while looking forward to the Champions League, stating, "We got a positive result against a great team with excellent players."

"The Champions League qualifying round will be very even.

"The positive is that we play the second leg at home, but we are facing a very difficult opponent."

Finally, Florent Sinama-Pongolle, who once played for Liverpool, said, "It was a very important game to continue increasing our level.

"The team tried hard, and we put in a complete performance, with just ten days to go before the Champions League qualifier. The away game will be difficult because of the atmosphere.

"We should be able to overcome that pressure. We are very excited about the prospect of playing in the group stage.

"It is a gift, and we will be there."
