Villarreal President Fernando Roig Confirms Nilmar Capture
A statement from the club supremo confirms that the exciting Brazilian is en route to Villarreal.
Villarreal President Fernando Roig has confirmed that Brazilian forward Nilmar has put pen to paper on a 5-year deal at El Madrigal after the club agreed an €11 million fee for the 25-year-old.
The former Lyon player, who has been capped eight times by Brazil, has an impressive one in two goal-to-game ratio in South America last season and was in the Selecao squad that clinched Confederations Cup glory in South Africa last month.
The move makes Nilmar the most expensive signing in Villarreal’s history and El Mundo Deportivo reports that Roig is overjoyed that a deal has been struck.
“He [Nilmar] is a great player, with excellent skills and we expect him to give us five years of happiness here.”
Nilmar’s purchase is a statement of intent from Los Submarinos Amarillos for the season ahead as they look to build a squad to compete in both the Primera Division and the Europa Cup, and Roig admitted, “Hiring Nilmar took a great economic effort from us, the largest amount we have ever paid out. It is a coup for the club to have secured his signature.”
The Brazilian will compete for a starting berth with current forwards Giuseppe Rossi, Joseba Llorente and Jonathan Pereira.
