Franz Beckenbauer Criticises 'Crazy' Real Madrid Spending
The highly-respected German has added his opinion on the transfer policy of the Spanish giants.
German legend Franz Beckenbauer is the latest high profile figure to condemn the spending of Real Madrid this summer, labeling Florentino Perez ‘crazy’ for the fees the newly installed president is willing to pay for Europe’s elite players.
Over €200 million worth of talent has arrived at the Bernabeu in the past month, and many of football’s prominent dignitaries have been outspoken towards Madrid's exorbitant transfer fees.
According to German newspaper Bild, the former German international coach believes something must be done to halt their domination of the market, saying, “I am sure that something is going to happen soon. What is happening right now is madness.
“The world is in the midst of a financial and economic crisis, and people are fearing for their positions. But yet [Florentino] Perez is acting like a crazy person who is walking around throwing money.”
Beckenbauer’s retort arises from Madrid’s constant pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Franck Ribery, who has made no secret of his desire to move to the Bernabeu, despite his club's insistence that the Frenchman is not for sale.
‘Kaiser’ added, “[Franck] Ribery’s future will not be sorted until August, when the transfer window closes.”
