Resino: Beating Deportivo Has Restored Atletico’s Confidence

The rojiblanco coach is certain that his players have recovered their self-belief after a crucial win over SuperDepor.

Atletico Madrid put an end to a wretched run of two successive defeats with a crucial 2-1 win against their direct rivals for Europe, Deportivo La Coruna.

The much-needed victory propelled Atleti back into the top six and coach, Abel Resino, is convinced that his players will now be able to approach the final stretch of the season with the right frame of mind.

“This win will reinforce the belief in the work we have been doing and bring back the confidence to keep on fighting for the future,” he told reporters after the game.

“We had a lot to play for today as we wanted to break our poor run and to keep our hopes of Champions League football alive. We played a great game today, except maybe for the final few minutes.

“When we play our football with full intensity, we can beat anyone. We have demonstrated this today against a big rival in a complicated ground,” he added.

Los Colchoneros looked to be cruising to a comfortable victory after Sergio Aguero and Simao netted either side of the break to give them a 2-0 lead. But Rodolfo Bodipo pulled one back for the Galicians to ensure a nail-biting finish to the contest.

“Deportivo threw themselves forward in desperation because the game saw drawing to a close and perhaps we lacked a little patience,” Resino analyzed.

“The last three minutes we were out of control, but we did well the rest of the game.”

Atletico are now sixth in the Primera Division standings on 46 points but they are still three points adrift of the top four, currently occupied by Valencia.
