Jozy Altidore Set For Xerez Deportivo Loan
American Jozy Altidore could see increased playing time after Villarreal and Deportivo Xerez finalize a loan deal.
Villarreal's Jozy Altidore is on the brink of completing a loan move to second-division Deportivo Xerez, according to a report from El Periodico Mediterraneo.
The young forward became the most lucrative transfer in Major League Soccer's history when he was sold to Villarreal last year for around ten million dollars.
Altidore has struggled to earn regular playing time, however. He was caught in the awkward position of staying with the primary team when a rash of injuries to their forwards prompted Villarreal management to keep Altidore on hand on a contingency basis.
He was able to score one goal in six games of action.
Now that the injury crisis to Villarreal has passed, the organization is looking to develop its investment in Altidore.
More playing time with a club would also assure Altidore's continued development with the U.S. national team, where he has emerged as one of the most exciting attacking players in years.
Deportivo Xerez now lead in Spain's second division, and Altidore could conceivably help the club earn promotion to La Liga.
