Barcelona Unbeaten for 20 Games

Barca's 4-0 victory over Valencia marked their 20th straight unbeaten match, a run of good form that could end next week versus Real Madrid.

Such has been Barcelona's dominance this season that their regular victories are being taken very much for granted. As for a Barcelona loss, that seems less likely than Joan Laporta claiming that he does, in fact, support Real Madrid.

Indeed, their 4-0 hammering of Valencia marked the 20th game without defeat, a run that shows no sign of stopping.

It is hard to believe that this campaign started with a 1-0 loss at Numancia, but since then no-one has come close to defeating Guardiola's team. The only minor setbacks have been three draws - against Racing Santander, Getafe and FC Basel respectively - although these results have not stopped the Blaugrana from finding themselves far ahead of the pack on both the domestic and European fronts.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of this run is not the sheer number itself, but the manner in which Barcelona have played. In the league, they have scored 44 goals in 14 games, an average of more than three per game, while they have conceded only nine, at around 0.6 per match.

With El Clásico looming around the corner, it would take a truly brave punter to bet against Barca extending this run next weekend.
