thumbnail Hello,

The USA right back impressed at the World Cup, and he now hopes to see his career progress under manager Lucien Favre.

U.S. international right back Fabian Johnson is healthy and eager to get started at new club Borussia Monchengladbach.

Johnson was presented to the press Wednesday after making an offseason move from Hoffenheim on a free transfer.

“I was looking for a new challenge and Borussia tried to get me very early on,” Johnson told the assembled media. “Borussia are in the Europa League, which excites me. In my view they're the best club for me to progress as a player.”

The 26-year-old right back started all four USA games at the World Cup but injured his thigh and had to be substituted in the team’s loss to Belgium in the round of 16.

"I picked up a tight thigh muscle in our final World Cup game against Belgium, but I had treatment on it right away and was able to enjoy my holiday," Johnson said.

"I've come back rested and fresh and I'm looking forward to my new role. I hope I can make up the three weeks I've missed as soon as possible. I'll be doing my utmost to get back up to speed quickly."

Johnson has shown plenty of versatility in his career, playing at left midfielder and left back in addition to right back, but said he prefers to play the position he made his own with the U.S. national team.

“I feel most comfortable at right back and that's where I put in my best performances during the World Cup in Brazil, but obviously I'll always try to do my best if I play in a different position,” Johnson said.

Borussia Monchengladbach finished sixth in the Bundesliga table in 2013-14, earning a spot in the Europa League.
