thumbnail Hello,

The 58-year-old VfL Bochum coach claims the former Germany star can take no credit for the treble-winning success of Bayern Munich

VfL Bochum head coach Peter Neururer has launched a scathing attack on former Germany star Matthias Sammer, the sporting director for Bayern Munich.

The 58-year-old argues the Bavarians historic treble-winning season was nothing to do with Sammer, adding that he is surprised they achieved such a feat with him at the helm.

"I don't know what Matthias Sammer is doing at Bayern Munich," Neururer told ran.de. "What I do know is that Bayern claimed their success last season not because of, but despite having Matthias Sammer."

Neururer also criticized the DFB for arranging meaningless friendlies against the USA and Ecuador for the senior side, instead of prioritizing the Under-21 European Championship.

"What kind of idiots, from a footballing aspect, put the reputation of German football at stake for completely redundant friendly matches against the USA and Ecuador, instead of assigning the players to the U-21 in Israel?" he said.

"Everything that has been built over the last few years gets completely destroyed at one stroke.

"Those who made these decisions, should seriously re-evaluate themselves."

Neururer has been in charge of VfL Bochum since April this year, and has previously coached Schalke, Hannover, Hertha Berlin and Koln.
