Germany 'has a lot of work to do', states Podolski after Switzerland defeat

The striker, who will join Arsenal ahead of the 2012-13 campaign, has stated that Joachim Low's side is upset over its defeat on Saturday and has a lot of work to do

Lukas Podolski had admitted that Germany's surprising 5-3 friendly defeat to Switzerland on Saturday hurts, as it steps up preparations for Euro 2012.

Eren Derdiyok bagged a hat trick while Stephan Lichtsteiner and Ahmed Mehmedi also got their names on the scoresheet at St Jakob Park.

Mats Hummels, Andre Schurrle and Marco Reus struck for the Germans, but it was not to be for Joachim Low's men, and Podolski stated the team is now focusing on its next match.

"We have to be ready to take some criticism in the next days. That is normal after such a game. But our plan is to be fit for the first match, that is our way," he told Goal.com after the defeat.

"Sure, such a loss hurts but we go forward. Switzerland played very well and we’re not yet where we want to be. We’ve got a lot of work to do."

Germany plays its final warm-up fixture versus Israel in five days time in Leipzig.
