Bayern Munich has apologized for a publicity stunt which led many of the club's supporters to believe that it had signed a high-profile forward.
The Bavarians released a statement on their official website claiming that they would announce the arrival of a ‘bomb’ striker on Thursday.
However, it transpired that Bayern was merely hyping up the launch of a new application for their fans on Facebook.
Many supporters felt let down and deceived and the Bundesliga leader has moved to make amends.
“We are sorry,” a statement on the club’s official website read. “It was not our intention to disappoint with the new Bayern app.
“Rather, we wanted to provide you with this app to show you how important every fan is to FC Bayern Munich.”
With the publicity stunt coming so soon after last weekend’s disappointing loss to Borussia Monchengladbach, Bayern will be hoping to get the fans back on its side when it hosts Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.
