Agent: Borussia Dortmund-bound Marco Reus did not ask Bayern Munich for playing guarantees

The Bavarian giants were keen on signing the Germany international, but the lack of playing guarantees was not the reason why he chose BVB instead

The agent of Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Marco Reus has rejected reports that his charge turned down a move to Bayern Munich because he could not be guaranteed playing time.

A report from Kicker claimed that negotiations between Reus and Bayern had broken down after the club declined to guarantee playing time for the Germany international, who would have faced stiff competition from Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller and Franck Ribery.

Reus' agent said that his client did have 'preliminary discussions' with Bayern, but guaranteed that such demands were not behind the decision to pass up the Bavarian club's offer.

"Such a guarantee was never in the contract talks," Dirk Hebel is quoted by sport1 as saying.

Bayern was long rumored to be interested in Reus and made no secret of its interest in the player.

However, in mid-December, CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge opined that Reus should stay at Gladbach, asserting that the pressure of playing for the German record champions would be too much.

Last week, Reus confirmed his summer transfer to Borussia Dortmund after agreeing to a five-year contract with the Bundesliga title holders.

This season, Reus has scored 13 goals and provided five assists in 18 games in all competitions.
