A late goal from Jose Paolo Guerrero ended Mainz's unbeaten run. Elsewhere, a Mario Gomez hat-trick lifted Bayern to victory over Hannover, and Stuttgart held Schalke to a draw.
Bayern Munich 3-0 Hannover
Mario Gomez became the first Bayern Munich striker to score a goal this season as the defending champions earned a 2-0 victory over Hannover. The forward netted a majestic hat trick, which lifted the Bavarians to their third win of the Bundesliga season.
Mainz 0-1 Hamburg
Mainz's seven-game winning streak finally came to an end as a late Jose Paolo Guerrero strike lifted Hamburg to victory. Both teams missed several chances before the Peruvian attacker delivered the decisive blow.
Schalke 2-2 Stuttgart
Schalke and Stuttgart played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in this afternoon's 'basement battle'. Timo Gebhart opened the scoring before Edu pegged the away side back. Substitute Martin Harnik looked like scoring a late winner before a Klaas Jan Huntelaar penalty earned Schalke a share of the spoils. The result may have been deserved, but has done little for either team as the pair remain in the relegation zone.
Werder Bremen 2-1 Freiburg
A resilient Bremen side edged Freiburg in a real thriller. The hosts took an early lead through Aaron Hunt's long-ranged blast before Julian Schuster leveled on the hour mark. Werder wasted a number of opportunities before Hugo Almeida finally sealed victory in the 73rd minute.
St Pauli 3-2 Nuernberg
Nuernberg equalized twice, but St Pauli ultimately earned a 3-2 victory over their Bavarian visitors. Gerald Asamoah and Mehmet Ekici traded goals on either side of the break, before Marius Ebbers' goal was canceled out by Andreas Wolf. The goal that made the difference came from Florian Bruns, who in the 82nd minute confirmed three points for St Pauli.
