Bayern Munich sporting director Christian Nerlinger claims his club made no offer for Mesut Oezil or Sami Khedira because the Bavarians were unsure of their quality.

Bayern Munich sporting director Christian Nerlinger has taken a dig at Real Madrid and Germany duo Mesut Oezil and Sami Khedira.

"Obviously, we observed the two of them," Nerlinger told Kicker. "But we did not go so far as to contact them or even to make an offer. We were not sure whether the two would be able to succeed at the top level."

Real Madrid, by contrast, did believe in the talents of Oezil and Khedira, and splashed a total of €29 million on the pair. In the first matchday of La Liga the World Cup heroes impressed as second half substitutes, but were unable to lead their team to victory over Mallorca as Madrid were forced to settle for a scoreless draw.
