Goal.com World Player Of The Week: Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben
Join Goal.com in saluting another global player worthy of recognition.
Welcome to Goal.com's regular feature: Goal.com World Player of the Week. Each week our worldwide team of editors will put forward a selected candidate, as chosen by Goal.com International, who deserves recognition for achieving something special that matchday. It won't necessarily be the best player in the world - at least not usually - but whoever we nominate will have done something amazing. It might be for a particularly awesome performance or for something praiseworthy off the pitch - either way, the person in question deserves special attention.
Goal.com World Player of the Week #38: Arjen Robben
Club: Bayern Munich
Country: The Netherlands
Age: 26
Role: Attacker
Achievement: Scoring in a third successive Bundesliga match
Bayern Munich have built unstoppable momentum in the German top-flight of late, stringing together eight successive wins to put themselves level on the top of the Bundesliga table with Bayer Leverkusen.
Louis van Gaal's side have been rejuvenated by the arrival, and consistent fitness, of the former Real Madrid winger, Arjen Robben. Comfortably the best player in the league, the Dutchman has netted in his last three league outings.
Last weekend, he was up to his usual trickery, terrorising Wolfsburg's hapless rearguard, and cutting a swath through the reigning champions, also scoring in the process.
Robben is a shoo-in for this season's Bundesliga player of the year and has relegated Franck Ribery to a supporting role at FC Hollywood so far this campaign. Fiorentina, in the Champions League, are now in the flying Dutchman's crosshairs.
Congratulations to Arjen, our 38th Goal.com World Player of the Week!
Honorable Mentions
Didier Drogba - Chelsea
Drogba netted two more goals against Arsenal, making it 12 in 12 games against Arsene Wenger's side. His brace was almost a hat-trick, but his late free-kick careered off the crossbar instead. The Ivorian is firing the strikes to keep his side in the Premier League title race, 16 in the top flight this season.
Antonio Di Natale - Udinese
Another week brings more success in front of goal for the Italy international. Udinese's talisman netted a triplet as the Fruliani downed Napoli, 3-1. Di Natale is Serie A's top scorer and a force to be reckoned with as la Nazionale prepare to defend their World Cup crown.
Robinho - Santos
A fairytale return to Brazil for the on-loan Manchester City striker. Despite starting on the bench due to a lack of match-fitness, Robinho came on to net an exquisite back-heel to send Santos past bitter rivals, Sao Paulo, 2-1 on his second debut for the club.
