Hernanes: Inter can win Serie A title inside three years

The Brazilian has confessed that he left Lazio for San Siro in January because he did not feel he had any chance of winning the Scudetto at the Stadio Olimpico

Hernanes firmly believes that he can win a Serie A title with Inter inside the next three years, arguing that, in terms of quality, the Nerazzurri are "nearly on par" with Juventus.

The San Siro side is enduring a season of transition under new owner Erick Thohir and new coach Walter Mazzarri, and currently sits fifth in the table, a whopping 28 points behind the league-leading Bianconeri.

However, Hernanes, who joined from Lazio during the January transfer window, is in no doubt that Inter is moving in the right direction and will soon be in a position to break Juve's stranglehold on the Scudetto.

"The Inter shirt is a powerful one," the midfielder told Corriere dello Sport. "This is a serious and important club.

"In terms of quality, I think we're nearly on par with Juventus. In my life, I've always believed that you can do a lot despite having little - but here we have a lot, so I'm sure we can win.

"I came here to win and that's what I want to do. In the next two or three years I want to lift the Scudetto with Inter."

Indeed, Heranes explained that the primary reason why he decided to leave Lazio for Inter was that he did not feel he would ever be able to realize his Scudetto dream at the Stadio Olimpico.

"Teams that aren't Milan or Inter or Juventus can't fight for the title, and that annoyed me at Lazio," he confessed.

"I have some wonderful memories of Lazio, but I'm an Inter player now."
